for over 12 years. Our paths first crossed at BBDO Direct in Newport Beach,
Ca. There, she worked as a freelance art director. As a copywriter, I

Carol Worthington Levy, one of America's most accomplished and successful
direct response designer/creative directors.
I have known and worked with Carol for a dozen or more years and our
collaboration has led to some of the most successful promotions in my
own
career as a copywriter. I've been impressed with Carol's ability to work
across the gamut of direct response including business-to-business,
publications, healthcare, automotive, financial and other subjects and
bring
fresh insights to each while thoroughly understanding the marketplace.
Two specific things I want to comment on:
#1 is Carol's dedication to direct marketing principles. She understands
that "high concept" art or copy cannot be allowed to get in
the way of
producing a high response. To quote David Ogilvy [I think], "We sell
or
else!" Carol does great designs...but she also makes sure the eyeflow
takes
the reader to the offer, that the type is readable, and that the entire
layout is appealing and approachable to engage the prospect. Result: Carol's
designs look great but they also get great results. I think this
self-discipline is a real plus for Carol's clients.
#2 is Carol's interest in and understanding of the marketplace. She sees
herself not just as a creative, but also as a small business owner. This
helps her empathize with her audience from an economic perspective and
leads
to more compelling communications. And her interest has extended to learning
the specific "hot buttons" for buyers in the other specific
fields, from car
parts to cosmetics, that she has been required to sell to. This is
recognition of market principles is VERY unusual in a designer and I think
it's another great selling point for her services.
